Laid Back and Key Wasted

In the spring of 1984, the company for which I worked transferred me from my carefree lifestyle on St. Simons Island, Georgia to Wilmington, Delaware. Some of the best years of my life were spent on St. Simons, so the day I left was especially sad for me. I drove to Interstate 95, turned right and headed north to my new home. On the way I wrote this song about what might have happened had I turned left and taken 95-South.

Back in the Sunshine Again

I spent a month in the northwest fishing for steelhead and salmon. It was November and so cold that I often had to stick my fly rod in the water to thaw the ice that had formed on the line guides. I had a great trip and caught some nice fish, but I was glad to get back to Florida.

Roadkill Maintenance Man

I heard that the state of New Hampshire collects roadkill, puts it in a deep freeze, and auctions it off once a year. Apparently some of the kill is fairly exotic, and taxidermists have an interest in it. What a great idea! The roads get cleaned of unsightly squashed carcasses, and the state makes money. So, here's to the men and women in the roadkill maintenance profession. I'm glad it's you and not me.

Livin' Till the Day I Die

Hardy Boy books, two-man baseball, tree houses, and a lively imagination helped get me through my childhood in rural Georgia. Luckily, I found out early that excitement seldom seeks you out and adventure rarely knocks on your door. I've always had a passion for the open road and a willingness to put myself "out there." I don't have much to show for all my years except for some great experiences, but I don't feel bad about that. I'm still working on that trip to Tahiti.

The Sailboat Race

This song is dedicated to crew of the Watermark II with whom I sailed many campaigns and especially to John Miller, my friend who had never sailed.
