Land Of No Mondays

LAND OF NO MONDAYS
© 2003 by Jim Morris

I feel like I just ran away
Like a kid out of school got no worries today
I'm feeling a change in the wind
It's so nice to be back in San Pedro again
I've got time to take time for myself
I've got time to do nothing at all
Fish on the reef, get some palm tree relief
If the phone rings I don't take the call

Chorus
I knew this would happen to me one day
I'm leaving the madness behind
I'm living in the land of no Mondays
There are no words left to speak
And manna is the busiest day of the week

There was a time long ago
When winter was staging one hell of a show
Nothing but meetings all day
I felt my sanity slipping away
I said hold on now this ain't for me
I've spent too much time on dry land
Now I head to the bar get some vitamin R
Write the songs that I sing with the band

Repeat Chorus

Take a car, take a plane, take a boat
Say good-bye to your boss or just leave him a note
Throw all your stuff out the door
You'll soon forget what you were keeping it for
Stress just starts melting away
You'll feel so much better in shorts
You get what you give
You know life is to live
It's not a spectator sport

Repeat Chorus

WHAT A PARTY

© 2004 by Jim Morris

He was stranded on a sandbar and running out of beer
When he flagged us down and asked me for a ride
He said I'm heading for a party, and boys, I'm taking you
If you like that sort of thing, I said, man, we do

We've got smooth sailing
On a night like you've never seen
The band's wailing
The boys were tight like a sound machine
We stepped up to the bar all big and hearty
Oh what a night
Oh what a life
Oh what a party

He said my friends get a little nervous,
So don't make any sudden moves
It won't hurt anything to stay a few drinks behind
He took us to Caye Caulker to spot they call the Split
If I ever saw a picture of cool, man this place was it

We've got smooth sailing
On a night like you've never seen
The band was wailing
The boys were tight like a sound machine
We stepped up to the bar all big and hearty
Oh what a night
Oh what a life
Oh what a party

He said drink till the girls get pretty
Then left us on our own
And he wandered off where wise men fear to tread
He said the best way to see the morning
Is to stay up all night long
It's not hard to wake up if you never go to bed

We've got smooth sailing
On a night like you've never seen
The band's wailing
The boys were tight like a sound machine
We stepped up to the bar all big and hearty
Oh what a night
Oh what a life
Oh what a party

THE ISLAND BAND

© 2004 by Jim Morris

There's a shack on the beach
Way out on the north end of the island
There's an old island band
And they play music everyday
It's so peaceful out there
On the lost end of the island
Till the sun hits the sea
Then they just let the music play

Chorus
They come and they sing and they dance
And they listen to the island band
By the sea in the sand
Dance to the music of the island band
Hey mister, say mister, stay mister
Listen to the island band
Stay mister stay listen to the island band

Jacomo makes the pans
Way out on the north end of the island
Got the rusty steel drums
Just laying in the sun all day
He fills them with beer
When it's hot out on the island
When the sun hits the sea
He just lets the music play

Repeat Chorus

There's a pass through the reef
Way out by the north end of the island
The boys work the boats
They're out fishing in the sun all day, every day
The lobster is fresh
It's the finest on the island
And when the sun hits the sea
You can hear the music play

Repeat Chorus

MAYBE MEXICO

© Jerry Jeff Walker

The whole world's topsy turvy
You feel like you're upside down
Every day it's push and shove
People trying to get around
Working's hard, breaking even's good
To live you know you need to pay
I'm halfway gone I feel I've got to stay
But I don't like living trapped this way
Get away, get away, yeah

I ought to be up and leaving this town
Heading down an open road
All that you own kinda thrown on the back seat
Thinking 'bout where to go
To New Orleans
Maybe Mexico

If only you could pack up everything you love
And everyone who'd ever been your friend
Keeping close to you the things are straight and strong
Ain't got to carry them with you round the bend
The fear to move and meeting new can keep you in line
To go you know there's some who stay behind
Separate the good and bad cause you know the kind
The world is passing you by
Right down the line
Down the line, yeah

I ought to be up and leaving this town
Headin' down an open road
All that you kinda thrown on the backseat
Thinkin' 'bout where to go
To New Orleans
Maybe Mexico

DRINKING SONG # 46

© 2004 by Jim Morris

I stopped by the bar in the middle of the day
I know it's very hard to believe
But I got a bad case of the "one mores"
And found it very hard to leave
He was standing in the men's room
Near the "No Bathing" sign
He sensed my confusion, gave me advice
And man it really cleared my mind

Chorus
He said you can't drink all day
Unless you start at sunrise
You can't drink all night
If you stop when the sun goes down
I'm just looking for a way through life
And it's looking like the bottle tonight
Stay right here, have another a beer
Be my buddy and buy me a round

He said the sign on the left said "Jesus is God"
"Make Him Your Savoir Today"
The sign on the right said "We Dare to Bare All"
"Stop in at Café Risqué"
He was totally conflicted as he drove down the interstate
So he stopped for lunch
And when the waitress came by
He said, "Ma'am your tits look great"

Repeat Chorus

He said swing for the fence
Believe me buddy, I know how
I made one mistake
If I had shot her when I shoulda
I'd be out of jail by now

Repeat chorus

TO SEE HER NOW

© 2004 by Jim Morris

The note that he left
Said he had gone to work things out
Sailing through the oceans blue
Until there were no doubts
He never tried to see her
Before he headed out to sea
He needed isolation
In his favorite place to be

Sometimes you say good-bye
Turn your back and walk away
And hope that it all works out somehow
The old men at the dock
Wonder what it took to make him run
And he wonders how it be to see her now

To see her now without emotion
To see her now without the pain
To see her now with wise and steady eyes
That weathered wind and rain
He nearly fell to pieces
But he made it through somehow
And he wonders how it'd be to see her now

From the mountains of Jamaica
To the jungles of Brazil
He gazed at stars and battled scars
And hopes that lingered still
Time soon worked its magic
And the distance eased his mind
Memories bleared then disappeared
And that suited him just fine

Sometimes you say good-bye
Turn your back and walk away
And hope that it all works out somehow
The old men at the dock
Wonder what it took to make him run
And he wonders how it be to see her now

To see her now without emotion
To see her now without the pain
To see her now with wise and steady eyes
That weathered wind and rain
He nearly fell to pieces
But he made it through somehow
And he wonders how it'd be to see her now

GUARDING THE YUCATAN

© 2004 by Jim Morris

I'm stationed in a beach chair
I've got a bunker in the sand
My eyes are peeled like a Navy SEAL
Up and down the Yucatan
The staff makes good mojitos
With the right amount of rum
You know I'm armed and ready
In case the bad guys come

The world is getting crazy
There's terror everywhere
And while I'm on vacation
I'm glad to do my share
No one's above suspicion,
So I check out all the girls
I'm pleased to do my duty
In this corner of the world

And I'm proud to be a sentry
By the Caribbean Sea
If the come by water
They gotta come by me
Jose has my back
In case they come by land
I'm a soldier of good fortune
And I'm guarding the Yucatan

An army marches on its stomach
That's what Napoleon said
So I'm munching on ceviche
And a loaf of Cuban bread
My wife is in the village
Checking out the shops
In wartime it's important
That commerce never stops

And I'm proud to be a sentry
By the Caribbean Sea
If the come by water
Then they've gotta come by me
Jose has my back
In case they come by land
I may look just like a tourist
But I'm guarding the Yucatan

And I'm proud to be a sentry
By the Caribbean Sea
If the come by water,
Well, they've gotta come by me
Juanita rubs my back
It's included in my plan
I'm a soldier of good fortune
And I'm guarding the Yucatan

VICTIM OF LIFE'S CIRCUMSTANCES

Delbert McClinton

6:05 A.M. on Sunday morning
I was supposed to be in Key West late last night
But I stopped in one of them old highway places
And because I did I'll sleep
In the Monroe County jail tonight

Chorus
I'm just a victim of life's circumstances
I've been raised around bar rooms and Friday night dances
And singing them old country songs
I've got this nasty habit of ending up
Some place I don't belong

I started out last night with good intentions
But I ended up getting sideways drinking wine
The last thing I remember we were roaring
Till something hit my head
And knocked me from my conscience mind

Repeat Chorus

I said jailer won't you tell me what I'm charged with
He looked at me and slightly closed one eye
He said to me you mean you don't remember
Cutting up that tourist
With that bone handled knife

Repeat Chorus

TRAGIC CAJUN LOVE SONG
© 2004 by Jim Morris

Chorus
Joli Blon, Fais Do Do and Bon Temps Roulette
Were some of the phrases that I learned to say
Death is like a pirogue
It takes you away on the bayou
Water like wine
That beautiful bayou sucked up
That Cajun sweetheart of mine

In a bar in Thibodaux she was singing the blues
She looked like an angel but it might have been the booze
I smelled romance so I took her to dance
On the bayou
We heard an old Cajun band
We danced and we sang songs with words
I could not understand

Repeat Chorus

She was mourning her lover, a coon ass redneck
Who died late one night in a pick-up truck wreck
The driver was drunk and they took a dunk
In the bayou
And her lover he drown
He was stuck in the back of the truck
Couldn't get the tailgate down

While poling her boat my beauty fell in
She thrashed in the water yelled Jim I can't swim
But neither could I so I said good-bye
On the bayou
Water like wine
That beautiful bayou sucked up
That Cajun sweetheart of mine

Repeat Chorus

OH MONTANA
© 2004 by Jim Morris

It's a long way from living by the beachfront in Naples
To standing on the side of the road
Taking a chance on the kindness of strangers
To get where you're trying to go
All she wanted now
Was to get back home some how

Oh Montana
She'll try her best to dream a little smaller now
Oh Montana
She'll try her best to stand a little taller now
Take her back
Take her back to find the world she left long ago

For three quiet years she lived in the shadows
Pretending that no one would know
While one woman's spending her dead husband's money
The other is packing to go
All she wanted now
Was to get back home some how

Oh Montana
She'll try her best to dream a little smaller now
Oh Montana
She'll try her best to stand a little taller now
Take her back
Take her back to find the world she left long ago

IT AIN'T EASY
© 2004 by Jim Morris

Hey there Mr. Sun
Won't you tell me how you do it
I've come to watch you're flowers growing
They tell me there's nothing to it
Put'em in the ground and let'em breath the air
Give'em a little water and let 'em take it all from there

But it ain't easy, I've tried
It ain't easy, oh no, no no
I've tried

Hey there Mr. Wind
Won't you tell me how it's going
I've come to watch the palm trees swaying
And they tell me how you're blowing
When I want to sail, you know you are my friend
When I want to fish, try to keep it under ten

But it ain't easy, I've tried
It ain't easy, oh no, no no
I've tried

Everything looks easy
If you never have to do it
When it comes right down to the final round
Don't you know there's a lot more to it
There aren't too many things where it's either do or die
You might make a mess but it never hurts to try

But it ain't easy, I've tried
It ain't easy, oh no, no no
I've tried

EGRETS, NO REGRETS
© 2004 by Jim Morris

Egrets, no regrets
A jug of wine and a cute brunette
And fifty things I haven't thought of yet

Surf's up, sun is high
Pretty sailboats passing by
Lovely women, my oh my

Egrets, no regrets
Taking a spin on life's roulette
Bought my chips and I've placed my bet
I've got the egrets and no regrets

I ain't worried bout anything passing me by
I ain't worried I got all I need
A pretty beach and a sunny sky

Palm trees, swimming pools
And wacky tourists dressed like fools
They don't like me cause I break the rules
I've got those egrets and no regrets

Wind speed is my concern
I'm happy, now, from bow to stern
So let me tell you just what I've learned

I've got egrets and no regrets
I've got no money but I've got no debts
And everyday I get a free sunset
I got egrets and no regrets

I ain't worried bout anything passing me by
I ain't worried I got all I need
A pretty beach and a sunny sky

Egrets, no regrets
A jug of wine and a cute brunette
And fifty things I haven't thought of yet
I've got egrets and no regrets
Egrets and no regrets
Egrets and no regrets
