Another
Day At The Office
TWENTY DOLLAR BILLS
© 2007 by Jim Morris
They call this road a turnpike
It's a hostile combat zone
The state of Pennsylvania
Must own every orange cone
Greasy truck stop pizza
Leaves me feeling twice my age
But everything's forgotten
When I step out on that stage
And I'm singing my songs
And it's giving me thrills
And they're singing along
And throwing twenty dollar bills
It's the traveling little circus
That we've all been dreamin' of
Livin' like a gypsy
It's the life that I love
We head to New York City
And the road is full of holes
How many gigs does one band need
To break even on the tolls
Stuck in rush hour traffic
You can feel the burning rage
But everything's forgotten
When I step out on that stage
And I'm singing my songs
And it's giving me thrills
And they're singing along
And throwing twenty dollar bills
It's the traveling little circus
That we've all been dreamin' of
Livin' like a gypsy
It's the life that I love
Heading down the parkway
Under grey and rainy sky
Is that bridge too low
Or is the bus too high
When the final show is over
We're gonna make that engine whine
Nothing looks as pretty
As that Florida Welcome sign
Two weeks on the road
Leaves me feeling twice my age
But I know it won't be long
Before I'm right back on that stage
And I'm singing my songs
And it's giving me thrills
And they're singing along
And throwing twenty dollar bills
It's the traveling little circus
That we've all been dreamin' of
Livin' like a gypsy
It's the life that I love
A GOOD DAY AT WORK
© 2007
by Jim Morris
I wish I could get back the time that I spent
Driving down to the shore
Or the time that I wasted just thinking about
How to get back down there once more
Nowadays whenever I need to escape
To write some new songs for the band
I can spend hours just making up stuff
While sitting around in the sand
I'm just a writer who plays the guitar
Looking for something to say
A day at the beach is a good day at work
When you're lucky to live life this way
It's really been one incredible journey
Searching my life for a song
If you love wide open spaces and tropical places
I'm happy to take you along
I wish I could get back all of the time
I sat in the seat of a plane
When I spent lots of money and traveled the world
To fish in the wind and the rain
Now I just wake up and checkout the tides
And wait for the wind to get still
I fish all the way to down Capitva Pass
Have some lunch down at Barnacle Phil's
I'm just a writer who plays the guitar
Looking for something to say
A day on the boat is a good day at work
When you're lucky to live life this way
It's really been one incredible journey
Searching my life for a song
If you love wide open spaces and tropical places
I'm happy to take you along
I never regret all the time that I spent
Hanging out in a bar
Singing about all the stuff that I've seen
Has taken me pretty damned far
These funky old joints sure have treated me well
Though somethings are never the same
I seldom get bounced, the drinks are all free
And the owners know me by name
I'm just a writer who plays the guitar
Looking for something to say
A day at the bar is a good day at work
When you're lucky to live life this way
It's really been one incredible journey
Searching my life for a song
If you love wide open spaces and tropical places
I'm happy to take you along
A sky full of stars and old salty bars
I'm happy to take you along
I'VE GOT THIS REALLY GOOD TEQUILA
IN MY ROOM

She took the red eye from the west coast
Found her rental car
Dropped her luggage in her hotel room
And headed right straight for the bar
She found a quiet table
And took some time to think
That's the way t found her
When she offered me the drink
She said I chase a silly dream
Even though I say I don't
But I've come to realize
I can't have everything I want
And today this foolish notion
Is coming to an end
But tonight I could really use a friend
My head is really buzzing
And I hope it's gonna last
Cause I'm feeling kind of lonely
And the night is coming fast
I don't want to offend you
And I don't want to assume
But I've got this really good tequila in my room
I've got this really good tequila in my room
She said this trip is hard to handle
So I need the whiskey strong
I'm here to see the wedding
That I've dreaded for so long
Cause the bride is my best friend,
But I've always loved the groom
I've got this really good tequila in my room
My head is really buzzing
And I hope it's gonna last
Cause I feeling kind of lonely
And the night is coming fast
I don't want to offend you
And I don't want to assume
But I've got this really good tequila in my room
I've got this really good tequila in my room
I listened to her story
And we drank a little more
I thought I'd leave without her
But I walked her to her door
How many other men knew the story that I heard
How many evenings got started with those words
My head is really buzzing
And I hope it's gonna last
Cause I feeling kind of lonely
And the night is coming fast
I don't want to offend you
And I don't want to assume
But I've got this really good tequila in my room
I've got this really good tequila in my room
MAYAN TIKI BAR
© 2007
by Jim Morris
I was walking by the ruins in the jungles of Belize
When I saw this little building by the wall
The tour guide was explaining but he's not fooling me
This ain't no sacred temple after all
The Mayans had a Tiki bar and they partied every night
I saw the funny pictures on the wall
They were dancin' and flirtin', sacrificing virgins
I bet those crazy Mayans had a ball
They had that jungle rockin' and a rollin all the time
A little six piece band down by the river bed
Those Tiki torches burning just lighting up the night
The Mayans had their very own Club Med
The Mayans had a Tiki bar and they partied every night
I saw the funny pictures on the wall
They were dancin' and flirtin', sacrificing virgins
I bet those crazy Mayans had a ball
Party, oh slam those maize drinks down
Party, gonna pass that pipe around
Party, make those happy Mayan sounds
A party in the jungle every night
Well they kept the good times rolling for about 3000 years
Till one day the crazy party got shut down
There's a lot of fancy theories but it's very clear to me
Pre Columbian disco ran them out of town
The Mayans had a Tiki bar and they partied every night
I saw the funny pictures on the wall
They were dancin' and flirtin', sacrificing virgins
I bet those crazy Mayans had a ball
They were movin' and mergin', sacrificing virgins
I bet those crazy Mayans had a ball
A LITTLE TOO FAR

I never shoulda left the house last night
I never shoulda went downtown
I never shoulda bought that Jose Gold
And I never shoulda slammed it down
I never shoulda even said hello
And I never shoulda took that kiss
Cause I never woulda stayed out all night long
And I never woulda felt like this
Some folks like to hang right in the middle
Most folks like to stay just where they are
But, me, I'm always pushing on the limits
And sometimes I think I go just a little too far
I've always had a wandering soul
And a very inquiring mind
Somethin' down that open road
Just calls me every time
Whenever I got restless
And felt the urge to roam
I'd wake up cold and thirsty
About a hundred miles from home
Some folks like to hang right in the middle
Most folks like to stay just where they are
But, me, I like to see what's down the highway
And sometimes I think I go just a little too far
I never shoulda left the house last night
I never shoulda went downtown
I never shoulda bought that Jose Gold
And I never shoulda slammed it down
I never shoulda even said hello
And I never shoulda took that kiss
Cause I never woulda stayed out all night long
And I never woulda felt like this
Some folks like to hang right in the middle
Most folks like to stay just where they are
But, me, I'm always pushing on the limits
And sometimes I think I go just a little too far
Some folks like to hang right in the middle
Most folks like to stay just where they are
But, me, I like to see what's down the highway
And sometimes I think I go just a little too far
STORMS AND SUNSETS

I've got a dollar in my pocket
And a warm breeze in the sails
Nothing else that matters much
But a hope that never fails
I'm bound from here to somewhere
And a few spots in between
I've got a heading on my compass
To a place I've never seen
Some times the days are stormy
And you fight to stay afloat
You feel like a moving target In such a tiny boat
And if you're really lucky
And your skill is true to form
You will come away believing
You can weather every storm
I've got a dollar in my pocket
And a warm breeze in the sails
Nothing else that matters much
But a hope that never fails
I'm bound from here to somewhere
And a few spots in between
I've got a heading on my compass
To a place I've never seen
As you scramble through your journey
In a race to get things done
Always take a moment
To watch the setting sun
The sky above costs nothing
It's always been that way
The world's biggest canvas
Gets painted every day
I've got a dollar in my pocket
And a warm breeze in the sails
Nothing else that matters much
But a hope that never fails
I'm bound from here to somewhere
And a few spots in between
I've got a heading on my compass
To a place I've never seen
I've got a heading on my compass
To a place I've never seen
ANOTHER DAY AT THE
OFFICE
© 2007 by Jim Morris
The sign on the door says entertainment today
I take my guitar and start singing away
You go to work but I go to play
Some people even call this a job
The crowd's really friendly
And they start singing along
They're buying me drinks
And requesting my songs
Nobody cares when I start singing it wrong
My working conditions are good
It's just another day at the office for me
Keeping the world safe from sonic debris
I get paid pretty well
I'd probably do it for free
Some people even call this a job
The dancing they do is a mystery to me
The strangest gyrations you'll ever see
They clap out of time
And they sing out of key
The entertainment is good
They have tequila for breakfast
And tequila for lunch
Tequila for dinner and tequila for brunch
For an in-between snack, hey, I have a hunch
They seem to like tequila
It's just another day at the office, you see
Spreading the gospel according to me
I get paid pretty well
I'd probably do it for free
Some people even call this a job
They party real hard
then they give it a rest
Some friendly girls
will even show me their breasts
That girl in Key West,
now she was the best
I shoulda had a camera that night
The owners are happy cause they're making a haul
No one got mad or started a brawl
No one's been stabbed and I'm not bleeding at all
I think I fooled'em again
It's just another day at the office for me
Keeping the world safe from sonic debris
I get paid pretty well
I'd probably do it for free
Some people even call this a job
It's just another day at the office, you see
Spreading the gospel according to me
I get paid pretty well
I'd probably do it for free
Some people even call this a job
Yeah, some people even call this a job
How the hell you call this a job
JADED LOVER
written by
Chuck Pyle (Bug Music OBO Bee 'N' Flower Music).
It won't be but a week or two
You'll be out lovin' someone new
It must have happened
a hundred times before
I bet you'll be spreading yourself thin too
It's a lonely stage you've been going through
Don't get up I can find my own way to the door
I can see you are an angel
Whose wings just won't unfold
Tune up your harp
And polish your old halo
The only kind of man that you ever wanted
Was the one that you knew
You'd never hold very long
You're sittin' there crying
Like I'm the first one to go
You must have thirty lovers behind you
I can see you but
I sure can't find you
Seem like you would have found your own self by now
Late at night your old lover's tears come back
Faces in your dreams and fingers in your back
Voices of the memories, now for crying out loud
I can see you are an angel
Whose wings just won't unfold
Tune up your harp
And polish your old halo
The only kind of man that you ever wanted
Was the one that you knew
You'd never hold very long
You're sittin' there crying
Like I'm the first one to go
What a joyous sight to see you in your sleep .._..
I believe I'm leaving it's getting' too deep
That seems easy enough for any man to say
We would never agree if we talked all night
Things are getting' kinda heavy, I'm traveling light
Good-bye you jaded lover
You undercover queen for a day
I can see you are an angel
Whose wings just won't unfold
Tune up your harp
And polish your old halo
The only kind of man that you ever wanted
Was the one that you knew
You'd never hold very long
You're sittin' there crying
Like I'm the first one to go
THE EYE OF THE STORM
© 2007 by Jim Morris
One minute life is easy and the world is looking
good
And the morning sun is shining down on you
Then the colors of the day turn from blue to gray
And in a flash your fears are coming true
What will you do when the wind begins to swirl
And something mighty makes a right-hand turn into your world
When you're picking up the pieces of your hopes and dreams
When you're looking for a place that's safe and warm
When it's hard to carry on, our spirit keeps us strong
When you're staring at the eye of the storm
When you're standing in the wreckage it's hard to see a better day
But you're happy to be standing up at all
When the things you take for granted seem so far away
It makes all your other worries seem so small
Where will you go when the wind begins to swirl
And something mighty makes a right-hand turn into your world
When you're picking up the pieces of your hopes and dreams
When you're looking for a place that's safe and warm
When it's hard to carry on, our spirit keeps us strong
When you're staring at the eye of the storm
What will you do when the wind begins to swirl
And something mighty makes a right-hand turn into your world
When you're picking up the pieces of your hopes and dreams
When you're looking for a place that's safe and warm
When it's hard to carry on, our spirit keeps us strong
When you're staring at the eye of the storm
IT'S TAKEN ME A WHILE
© 2007 by Jim Morris
It's hard to beat the quiet stillness of the morning
Sitting on the front porch to watch the boats go by
It won't be long before the sun brings out the tourists
You'll find me chasing tarpon on the fly
Some people do it better
But it's much too late to turn back
And I love the place I'm in right now
It's taken me a while, and as I look out on the ocean
I wonder how I ever came this far
All my life I've been pretty mellow fellow
I find the silver lining hidden in the clouds
I don't get angry when they say bad things about me
I just shake my head and start to laugh out loud
Some people do it better
But it's much too late to turn back
And I love the place I'm in right now
It's taken me a while, and as I look out on the ocean
I wonder how I ever came this far
When I get old and the end is getting closer
I'll live on beer and doughnuts, ice cream and pumpkin pie
They'll put some salt on the rim of my casket
I'll be serving margaritas when I die
Some people do it better
But it's much too late to turn back
And f love the place I'm in right now
It's taken me a while, and as I look out on the ocean
I wonder how I ever came this far
It's taken me a while, and as I look out on the ocean
I wonder how I ever came this far
WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN ON CHARLOTTE
HARBOR
© 2007 by Jim Morris
I'll anchor near this little mangrove island
Then I'll stop to fish the sandbar near Cape Haze
The sun is sinking low on the horizon
When it's gone it will set the sky ablaze
When the sun goes down on Charlotte Harbor
I'll stop to take a moment to kiss the day good-bye
There's nothin' quite as pretty as the twilight time
When the water becomes inflamed with the image of a sunburned sky
Sometimes I lose my way cause I just get busy
Running like fool from town to town
All that moving round just makes me dizzy
I can't seem to find the brakes to slow me down
When the sun goes down on Charlotte Harbor
I'd stop to take a moment to kiss the day good-bye
There's nothing' quite as pretty as the twilight time
When the water becomes inflamed with the image of a sunburned sky
THE TALKING MANATEE
© 2007 by Jim Morris
I was on my boat this morning
And heard a voice call out to me
Up there near the mangroves
Was a talking manatee
He said Jim it's good to see you
On water everyday
And if you've got a minute
I've got some things to say
I've been up Crystal River
That's the place I love the most
I winter in Charlotte Harbor
And I've checked out every coast
Your land is full of highways
With buildings everywhere
You humans are crazy people
You're much too busy way up there
You see I been observant
But I don't need no satellite dish
I play dodge boat every morning
Then I go drinking with the fish
I'm really in to healthy living
I eat salad every day
You may thing I'm a little chubby
But I'm supposed to be that way
f swam all the way from Tampa Bay to Mosquito Lagoon
t was floating by Cape Canaveral
When those guys went to the moon
You park in driveways and drive on parkways
It sure seems nuts to me
You humans are crazy people
About as silly as can be
I said, Mr. Manatee you're a smart one
But before you have to go
There's this piece of information
That everyone wants to know
He said, they say we taste like chicken
But I don't think that's true
A big ol' bull shark told me
That we taste a lot like you
He said try to take it easy
Take pleasure in every day
Try some grouper therapy
Or go sailing on the bay
Spend less time in ail that traffic
Don't go speeding everywhere
You humans are crazy people
You're much too busy way up there
You humans are endangered people
Take it easy way up there
