Nav-A-Gator Afternoon

I consider the Nav-A-Gator to be my professional home. It’s a touch of “Old Florida” on the Peace River. I often play there on Saturday afternoons and the joint gets rocking. Many thanks to Nancy, Dennis, Billy, Eileen, Lynn, Jan and everybody else who works there and especially to all of the people who show up on those Nav-A-Gator afternoons.

Magazine Street

Although the French Quarter is one hell of a party, I think the best spots in New Orleans are Uptown. Tylers on Magazine Street was my favorite hang out until it closed. Uptown women always seemed to be more sophisticated and mysterious. I wanted to capture the mood on a rainy Friday evening in New Orleans.

When Sunday Comes

Upon arriving at the small airport in San Pedro, Belize, I saw a tired and flustered traveler toss his luggage in the dirt while complaining about the arduous journey. Yeah, the trip to paradise is usually long and convoluted, but it's ten times better than the trip home.

Captain Jack Is Coming Back

My friend Randy White made the switch from fishing guide to successful writer, but Captain Jack did not fare as well.

Magic On The Water

This song took shape after a great evening at Cabbage Key. Good friends, good food, and good booze. We stayed up late and spent the night in the old inn. The next morning was too perfect for me to describe. On the trip across Charlotte Harbor, I kept stopping just to take in the view. In addition to the great wildlife, sailboats in a distant regatta were flying their spinnakers. I felt like I was in a painting.

Some Nights You Never Go Home

This song takes me back to St. Simons Island and a Friday evening at "Emmeline and Hessie's." If you were there in the 80's, you will know what I'm talking about.

Sangria Wine

Classic Jerry Jeff. I was at the Luckenbach Dance Hall for the 20th anniversary of Viva Terlingua, and hearing the original players do Sangria Wine was quite a thrill.

Night Watch

I have been meaning to write this song ever since my first off shore sailboat race. It was the Gulfport to Pensacola race in 1992. No television, no VCR, no computer. Just the sound of the boat slicing through the waves and a sky full of stars. That is, until the thunderstorms hit.

Contrary To Ordinary

I first heard this song on a Jerry Jeff album, and I wished I had written it. My version is much different from the original, but I hope you like it.

No Beer Today

This is a shocking story with a happy ending. A friend and I arrived in Antigua only to find that it was Election Day, and all of the bars were closed. So we went underground and eventually bought a case of Red Stripe from a guy who lived in a shack at the end of a hidden beach.

Yankee Traitor

A lot of us dream about leaving it all behind and heading off to find that perfect spot that exists in our imagination. But it always seems like every place was better twenty years ago. So, we keep on looking. Just remember, it's the trip not the destination.

Wherever The Wind Blows

I wrote the chorus and a couple of verses of this song as I was returning from a severely raucous St. Patrick's Day celebration in Savannah, Georgia. I think it must have been something some woman said. This is one of those "Your going to miss me when I'm gone" songs.

Strong Whiskey and Big Glasses

I saw a drunk guy try to pick up a woman at an airport bar one morning. I thought the odds of him succeeding were astronomical given the locale and the time of day. I wondered what approach he would take, and this is what I conjured up.
